Séminaire E. Chatzi - Janv. 2025

We have the pleasure to host Eleni Chatzi from ETHZ the 23rd January 2025 for a seminar entitled A Physics-Enhanced Approach to Modelling and Tracking Nonlinear Behavior

undefined

Abstract: Modern engineering systems operate under complex conditions, often characterized by inherent nonlinearities and dynamic interactions. Ensuring efficient modeling, monitoring, and decision-support for such systems demands strategies rooted in observations of their operational behavior. Advances in sensing technologies have enabled the capture and logging of complex and nonlinear response phenomena. However, these datasets are often sparse in both temporal and spatial resolution, and are susceptible to noise and distortions due to environmental and operational influences. Consequently, purely data-driven approaches frequently fall short in robustly addressing the nonlinear and dynamic complexities of these systems.

This talk introduces a comprehensive framework for physics-enhanced digital twins, which integrates physics-based principles, and dynamics intuition in particular, with advanced data assimilation techniques. These augmented twins transcend the limitations of traditional methods by delivering interpretable, scalable, and actionable solutions for the management of complex systems. The discussion highlights how these principles drive the evolution of monitoring systems and digital twinning, paving the way for resilient and responsive engineered systems.
