The workshop "Towards multifunctional photonic devices and subsystems: latest advances and future trends" is organised within the framework of the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015) and the Franche-Comté regional project called "LUX!"
What is the International Year of Light (IYL 2015)?
The International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies (IYL 2015) is a global initiative adopted by the United Nations to raise awareness of how optical technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to worldwide challenges in energy, education, agriculture, communications and health.

The University of Franche-Comté and FEMTO-ST as well as the Labex ACTION support this international action through the regional projet called "LUX!" and the organization of several events.
The ICB laboratory also participates to this event.

John Dudley (FEMTO-ST/Optical departement) who collaborates within the WP3: Nonlinear functionalities of the Labex ACTION is vice-president of the International Year of Light 2015.

Flashback on the iyl 2015 french opening ceremony
The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015) in France was launched by a moving ceremony in the temple of the French culture, La Sorbonne in Paris, with participation of more than 800 attendees on January 8th. The ceremony brought together scientists, philosophers, writers, artists of light, specialists in vision, lightning but also students and young entrepreneurs.
